Latest update on Glory Ridge Chair

2010-09-21 by Rebeckah Hornung ......................................................................................
The excitement is building up here at Whitewater and in the Nelson area with the new Glory Ridge Chair installation.  Valhalla Helicopters were just up assisting the crew, keeping everything on schedule to have the towers put up later this month.

One project that has just been completed is the installation of the electrical cable from the base of the lift to the top of the lift.  2154 feet of cable, not a small feat!  This cable will deliver power to the Glory Ridge Chair, a Dopplemayr triple top drive lift and will energize the future upgrade of the Summit Lift.  Top Drive lifts are more energy efficient, where the savings come the lift just pulling the skiers up the mountain, not pushing AND pulling.  This cable will also be used to move the Summit chair over to a top drive in the future.

The glading continues as well.  In addition to the glading that is being done for the runs, the team has also been working on putting in 41 parking spots at the base of the new chair.  This is for pass holder convenience as skier services will remain at the main base area.

As if we are not busy enough, the upgrades to the lodges are coming along great.  The main level will host a new retail outlet that will have more space, meaning more product and more selection.  The kitchen is also seeing upgrades which will mean improved food service for our guests.

Keep checking back for updates!  If you do have any questions do not hesitate to call us at 250-354-4944 or email info@skiwhitewater.com.

And do not forget that THIS Saturday, Sept 25th is the last day to buy your Early Bird Season Pass!  So stop by, say hi, and pick yours up today!

Think snow....

We no longer live in Nelson, but in Yellowknife. We come back to ski at WW for a few days annually, then back country tour for a week. Your history of WW pays very little tribute to the Adams and their influence at the hill. In particular, Shelley\'s food was a draw to all of Nelson. Many people drove up just for the food and lunch, (who didn\'t ski). When she ran the cafe, it was very rare for anyone to bring their own food-hers was so amazing and cheap. It would be great in your history section on your website, if you could acknowledge a little more of their recent tenure and influence on the hill, their renovation of the lodge etc. It seems like you have totally ignored the recent history of the hill, and that seems disrespectful of a couple who worked so hard to improve the experience there, and continued to provide an amazing home-grown experience with world-class skiing. Good uck with your venture.
Thanks Anna Reid

Thats really exciting about your new chair. It kind of gives away the stash back there though. I have been lucky enough to ride the backside many times visiting whitewater without a chair. Good thing it snows lots there otherwise it would just track out.

The real question is :
WHEN ARE YOU HIPPIES GOING TO PUT A BIG GONDI RIGHT UP YMIR PEAK

let the world know when you do

so glad you put in new lift...do not have to worry about running into the long line of hitchhikers anymore

I think a gondola would be a huge mistake on Ymir.
Authentic skiing experience is Rare in a big Corp ski world.
Careful development,environmental and social responsibility.
Keep it up!

Can\'t wait to visit WW, it has been six years since I last skied there, nearly every day for 3 months. Just happened to check out the website and discovered the addition of a new lift...I had given up hope that WW would ever expand. Used to ride the backside a lot, I love the idea of opening it up with a lift, I never was a fan hitchhiking. Hope the food is still as good!

Hey Sasha, we are doing safety load testing on the chair mid Dec and if all goes well we could have it open as early as Christmas (weather dependant of course)!

Keegan! I was not sure what you were asking? I do know what time it is but the funny thing about time is that it keeps going. So are you asking what time it is now or what time it is later? My colleague did just remind me that it is ALWAYS snow o'clock. So the answer is, TIME TO GET TO THE MOUNTAIN! Was this the answer you were looking for?

"Much of Whitewater’s tree skiing is fairly steep but the more consistent intermediate pitch of the trees skier’s left of the Glory Ridge chair are a great training area for those with less experience in the trees. Whitewater’s usually best-in-interior-BC lift-served snow conditions and low skier density are also major virtues."
