The Time Has Come For Your Mountain Update

2012-09-24 by Rebeckah Hornung ......................................................................................
I know that you have all been craving updates on what the Whitewater team has been up to this summer, so thank you for your patience!
Let’s start with the lovely Glory Side…
 Glory Ridge Updates
We did some additional glading to the skier’s right of the Glory chair, just off ‘Bound For Glory’, as well as the top skier's left in Fuse/Ramble On.  Mr. Spider Hoe also is working on the steeper sections of upper Morning Glory and Ramble On. There are also three beautiful new runs, located to the skiers left of the Glory Chair. These new additions will add more variety to your line by offering more open and safer options down. No more funneling down the Backside Ski Way!
Below are some pics of the new runs.

Glory is not the only side to be improved, both skiers right and left of Nugget has been gladed.

And the parking lot…oh the parking lot.  This was not a small project but all this work will be worth it!  Look at that beautiful one way loop…..

It is revolutionary, I know.

WHO’S EXCITED?!  I hope I am not alone in the anticipation of the white snow line to appear, then move its way slowly down the mountain tops.  To see the snow start collecting first on Ymir, then at the lodge, then at the Glory base.  To have that crispness in the air instill the excitement, that sense of joy that only that ‘moment’ on your favourite run deep in snow can create.

So come by our new office at 602 Lake Street, purchase your season pass, grab a bite of Pow Chow, and check out the latest info on our bulletin board.  Can’t make it to the office in time? Purchase your season pass online by clicking HERE or call us at 250-354-4944.

Early Bird Pass Sale ends September 30th!  Remember to purchase your Mountain Adventure Centre program or Shuttle booklets before the end of the month and save 10%!

First off thanks for the three new runs on the backside. Having to ride all that cat track, especially for me, was hell...lol Second, for me and anyone else not entirely down with the lingo; what exactly does glading mean? And last, the parking lot efffff yeah!

Hi Dana, Glad that you are happy about our uprgrades and for asking for clarification on my lingo :-) Glading = the thinning of trees to make them more skiable! Let it snow, Rebeckah

Just curious what kind of traffic control there will be at the intersection between the new exit and the entrance road. Seems to me you will have traffic crossing each other, especially in the morning with folks arriving and other drivers leaving after dropping people off. I see the opportunity for some confusion!

Wow, Is only one little word that could possibly explain the improvements that have been made to our beautiful hill. New Food Truck, New runs and last but not least, the painstaking thought of wondering if your going to get that perfect spot... Its Now Over. Our brand new parking lot is on its way.. Yay.. I'm super stoked for shredin some fresh pow, and pumpin out some of the best ski food around.. BooYah Gaia

Hi George, We will ensure to have appropriate signage, which includes do not enter signs on the access point to the new parking area, directional signage and, of course, a stop sign when leaving the new loop. As this is new to us as well as you, we will ensure to monitor it to ensure that we can keep the traffic flowing! Looking forward to having you experience our new loop :-) And to Bob, Marilyn, and Gaia - thanks for the stoke! We do it all to make you happy, so thank you for appreciating the work our team has done! Marilyn - I believe you are referring to the section to the skiers right of the Glory chair? No glading there as we have been too busy putting in the new runs on the left side! Let it snow! Rebeckah

wouldn't the traffic flow better if you reversed the direction maybe not perfect but less headon collisions with half baked people with no snow tires

We feel the traffic will flow fine in a clockwise direction as always, the small uphill approach entering A lot has been reduced slightly and the hill going downhill from the lodge entering into the new lot is even less steep of a grade. No head on collisions as the traffic will all go the same direction. Typical traffic signage will be in place at the intersection (stop sign leaving the new lot, and do not enter signs passing by the new exit). This should work and make sense; and of course, we would like everyone to adhere to the signage at the bottom of the hill regarding snow tires. :-)

As a follow up to the blog comment posted by Rebeckah on September 28th, we have completed glading on the skiers right of Bound for Glory from Tower 13 to Tower 4 of the Glory Chair. The gladed terrain still remains double black diamond but has been enhanced for expert skiing and riding. All we need now is Ullr to come and work his magic!
