They don't call it "Coldsmoke" for nothing.

Although its been a little dry this past week have no fear, the Kootenay Coldsmoke Powder Fest never disappoints. In the two years that we have been a sponsor of the event it has dumped each time and I have a feeling this year will be no different. Last years event saw 62cm of pow fall throughout the three days, so much snow that it made the ROAM Rando Rally even more difficult than normal but it was a boon for the Valhalla Pure Powder Keg Slopestyle event as the landings were fluffy soft.

The year before last was incredibly cold and saw sunny skies for the first two days but once again the snow was delivered just in time. It started puking Sunday morning and continued all day at a feverish pace, it didn't take much given the deep freeze temps as all the pow fell as true Kootenay Coldsmoke, light and fluffy. The following day (post festival) the snow kept coming and the resort and backcountry skiing was pretty amazing. Check out pics from the event here and relive it all over again.

"There aren't many places in BC that capture the spirit of outdoor enthusiasts much like Whitewater Ski Resort. Unless you experience it for yourself there is no way to accurately describe the atmosphere in this area. It's a throwback to when skiing was pure and intense, when skiers were interested in skiing instead of commercialized resorts "
