Coal Oil Johnny's Pub
......................................................................................Coal Oil Johnny's Pub is where smiling, powder weary skiers and riders enjoy their last run of the day. The cozy, rustic timber frame environment sets the stage for epic stories of knee deep powder over delicious food and local Nelson Brewing Company (NBC) beer.

Coal Oil Johnny's Pub shares the same kitchen as Fresh Tracks Cafe. Along with satisfying many skiers and riders lunch cravings, it is not uncommon to find people coming up to the mountain just to enjoy lunch in the pub! Coal Oil Johnny's offers daily gourmet features along with the full Fresh Tracks menu. After the lifts stop turning, Coal Oil Johnny's offers up a tantalizing and varied apres ski menu to match your choice of NBC brews on tap such as; Harvest Hemp Ale, Paddywhack IPA and the much anticipated seasonal Faceplant Winter Ale.
And if you are wondering why the tongue-twister of a pub name, it's because like any good name, there is a storied history behind it. Nelson and the Kootenay region were well known for its rich mineral deposits and the mining of gold and silver at the turn of the century. This of course brought a lot of enterprising individuals to the area hoping to strike it rich, one of these enterprising individuals was a gentleman fondly nicknamed Coal Oil Johnny. Almost every night the residents of Nelson would see the light from Johnny's lantern across the lake as he continued his endless search for that elusive golden nugget. Despite his persistence, rumour has it Coal Oil Johnny never did find his nugget and lived out the rest of his days in poverty. So we have chosen to dedicate our pub name to his efforts and all those like him who, 120 years ago, would have been swapping epic tales of gold and silver exploration instead of stories of powder filled adventures like ours today.
Coal Oil Johnny's is open daily from 11am - 7pm during the ski season from December through April.
