This service of offered by the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC), a non-government, not for profit organization dedicated to public avalanche safety. The CAC came into existence in 2004 with the support and collaboration of federal, provincial and private sector agencies involved in avalanche safety.

Definition:
   av·a·lanche  
   1. A fall or slide of a large mass, as of snow or rock, down a mountainside.
   2. A massive or overwhelming amount; a flood: received an avalanche of mail.

Interested in learning about Avalanche Awareness? Whitewater Ski Resort offers one-day introductory course is a great place to start.  If you are interested in taking it one step further the Avalanche Skills Training course is a  3-day course, recognized by the Canadian Avalanche Association, and is highly recommended for anyone interested in backcountry travel. The course is also a pre-requisite for the CAA level 1 avalanche course.  

Whitewater Ski Resort is also a proud supporter of the Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaries Society.  A program started to raise awareness and educate youth in decision making about backcountry travel and avalanche safety by providing age appropriate courses in the west Kootenays.
