Smith Optics Junior Freeski Open

Smith Optics Junior Freeski Open

Whitewater is pleased to announce the second annual Smith Optics Junior Freeski Competition happening February 1-3, 2013.

This Big Mountain Freeskiing competition is for ages 7 to 18 years who will be judged on 5 different categories as described below.  Skiers are rewarded for using the terrain creatively and officially are scored based on line choice, fluidity, style, control, and aggressiveness as they navigate through black and double black ski terrain featuring cliffs, airs, moguls, and anything else the mountain can throw at them.  The terrain chosen has a designated start location, left and right boundaries, and a finish line.  Where competitors go is totally up to them.  This type of competition meshes really well with the Kootenay mentality.

Categories will be broken into: Boys 7-11, Girls 7-11, Boys 12-14, Girls 12-14, Boys 15-18, Girls 15-18

There is a $20 bib deposit to be made upon registration.

"“Whitewater is amazing—that’s the simple truth. It has all types of terrain and a recently added chair that opened up even more of the goods. Add a solid local crew that’s not going to vibe you out and the light, fully interior powder and you’ve got a clear favourite in my opinion.” "
