4th Annual Smith Optics Junior Freeski Open
Whitewater Ski Resort is pleased to announce the 4th Annual Smith Optics Junior Freeski. The event had been postponed to March 27th, 28th and 29th, 2015.
We have recently experienced mild temperatures, which have created spring melt/freeze conditions and unseasonably firm snow surfaces on all aspects and elevations of the resort. Since the weather forecast is calling for slight cooling into the competition weekend, it is unlikely that the venues will soften much. With less than ideal conditions for competitors in the forecast and safety being the biggest priority for all of us here at Whitewater, we feel postponing the competition is the best decision that will ultimately result in a more positive experience for all involved.
Our most sincere apologies for an inconvenience this may cause to anyone involved. Thank you for understanding.
REGISTRATION IS FULL, please call 250-354-4944 to register for the Wait List over the phone. Please do not try to regsiter through Athlete Path, you can only register for the Wait List over the phone or in person at 602 Lake Street.
This Big Mountain Freeskiing competition is for ages 7 to 18 years who will be judged on 5 different categories as described below. Skiers are rewarded for using the terrain creatively and are scored based on line choice, fluidity, style, control, and aggressiveness as they navigate through black and double black ski terrain featuring cliffs, airs, moguls, and anything else the mountain can throw at them. The terrain chosen has a designated start location, left and right boundaries, and a finish line. Where competitors go is totally up to them. This type of competition meshes really well with the Kootenay mentality and terrain.
Categories will be broken into:
Boys 7-11, Girls 7-11, Boys 12-14, Girls 12-14, Boys 15-18, Girls 15-18
